• When should high school students get started?

  We work with younger students as early as 8th grade, so they enter high school with a clear plan and strong momentum. When students have time on their side, they can make strategic, meaningful strides that accumulate over the years.

  Junior year is an ideal time to start the college application process. The summer before senior year should be spent getting a head start on applications. While students are out of school, much can be accomplished, allowing them to begin their senior year ahead of their peers.

• Are parents involved in the process?

  For high school or younger students, parents are a critical part of the process. Usually, parents may join the initial call or email the counselor for updates, but the counselor primarily works one-on-one with the student. We also understand that applications can be stressful and may sometimes lead to family tension. This is where the counselor steps in—providing expert guidance, keeping the student on track, and alleviating family stress to make the journey smoother for everyone involved.

• Why should I hire Curated Candidate if my child’s high school has its own college counselor?

  A high school counselor is not a private tutor—they often manage hundreds of students, making it difficult to provide individualized attention. Additionally, it’s uncommon for a high school counselor to work nights and weekends or provide extensive editing support for essays, as it’s beyond the scope of their role.

• Do you provide mentoring to younger students?

  Yes. We work with younger students as early as 8th grade.

• Do you work with Ivy League Candidates?

  Yes, we regularly work with students applying to Ivy League and top 20 schools. However, we also assist students applying to local state schools and a wide variety of colleges. • Do you work with BS/MD and medical school candidates?

  That is the specialty of our sister company, Moon Prep. Moon Prep is the leading consultancy focused on Direct Medical Programs and Medical School admissions. BS/MD programs are often more competitive than Ivy League schools, and it’s crucial for applicants to work with a counselor who has specialized expertise in this area, as these applications differ significantly from traditional college applications. Essays and Personal Statements

• How do you help students manage the large volume of essays?

  The number of essays a student writes can vary widely depending on the schools to which they apply. Many seniors end up writing more than 50 essays, with some exceeding 100. The good news is that many essays can be revised and reused across multiple schools, making the process more manageable. Much of the work is front-loaded, which is why starting early and laying the groundwork is critical for a smooth application cycle.

• How do you help students brainstorm and develop their essay ideas?

  We guide students through a structured brainstorming process to help them identify their strengths, experiences, and passions that will resonate with admissions committees. Our counselors encourage students to explore personal stories, challenges they’ve overcome, and future aspirations that align with their academic and extracurricular interests. With this guidance, students can craft authentic and compelling essays that highlight what makes them unique.

• What makes a college essay stand out, and how do you ensure my essay is memorable?

  A standout essay is one that is authentic, reflective, and personal. We help students dig deeper into their experiences to ensure their essay conveys not just their achievements, but their personality, character, and growth. • Will you help me with multiple drafts of my essays?

  Yes. We do not limit the number of drafts. With our flexible pricing, students can choose the level of guidance they need throughout the process. Our team is here to support students until they feel confident submitting their applications, providing as much feedback and assistance as required to perfect their essays.

Billing and Payments

• What is the pricing for services at Curated Candidate?

  The investment starts at $6,000, for full application support (high school senior year). For additional services, package prices vary based on grade level and service.

• Do you offer payment plans?

  No, at this time we do not offer payment plans.

  For clients enrolled in a multi-year plan, billing is structured annually rather than charged in full upfront.

• Do you provide guarantees?

  While we provide expert guidance, we cannot guarantee acceptance to any specific school or program. Ethically, no one can offer this guarantee. However, we focus on maximizing your chances through tailored strategies and expert advice.

• Can I meet my counselor before committing?

  Yes, we offer a free consultation to get to know your needs and determine if Curated Candidate is the right fit for you.
